Review of Becky Doumas
My time spent volunteering with Androula and learning to cook at her amazing accommodation in Treis Elies was simply amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and this time in my life was truly special. It is impossible not to learn so much from Androula (she is an incredible source of information) and I did so in the areas of gardening, cooking, cleaning, hosting guests and preparing the accommodation (I also learnt a lot about Cyrpus and Cypriot culture). I volunteered in late spring and Androula and myself accomplished much in her beautiful gardens: de-weeding, rescuing strawberry plants, planting vegetables, setting up her tomato patch and various other tasks. She uses her home grown herbs to make the most delicious and healing tea and also makes her own rose water from her Damask roses. I also learnt so about cooking and it is a true honour to be in Androula’s kitchen to witness and learn her amazing approach to cooking. She uses fresh and local produce to create flavourful and traditional Cypriot and Mediterranean meals. Other areas I contributed in included painting and repairing outside furniture, cleaning and preparing the apartments before and after guests arrived, helping her make her incredible tea bags and many more to do’s that are involved in the up keep of her truly special guest home. I cannot recommend this volunteer experience more highly and it is one I will never forget.
